An ice bath, or cold plunge, offers numerous benefits, including enhancing mood and treating depression.

Ice Baths in Playa del Carmen. Today, I'm excited to share my extraordinary experience at Riviera Frost, a truly unique establishment in Playa del Carmen that specializes in ice baths or cold plunges.

What truly sets Riviera Frost apart is not just the ice baths, but the exceptional expertise and guidance of Alex, a certified thermalist from the renowned Soeberg Institute.

Remember this: Immersing yourself in ice water is a profound experience that requires the right guidance, and Riviera Frost provides just that.

Cold Plunge Playa del Carmen: Reviews and Reservations

This image shows a series of positive reviews of Riviera Frost on Google My Business.
One of the main reasons I chose Riviera Frost was the abundant positive reviews online.

Choosing to visit Riviera Frost was a breeze. The multitude of positive reviews I encountered were a clear testament to its quality.

The reservation process was a cinch: I simply reached out to Alex via WhatsApp through his website, and he promptly provided a link for payment.

I booked for Sunday, and Alex also shared a pre-session guide, ensuring I was well-prepared for the experience.

Location and Arrival

In this image, we can see the location of Riviera Frost in Playa del Carmen on Google Maps.
Next to Plaza Las Américas is Riviera Frost. It is easy to get there by bus or taxi and is approximately 10 minutes from Fifth Avenue by public transport.

The small group sessions, with a maximum of 5 or 6 people, ensure personalized attention. The place is located near Plaza Las Américas.

Although it is not in a tourist area, getting there by taxi, private vehicle, or public transportation is straightforward.

Also, they provide private sessions for a reasonable price of around 700 Mexican pesos or 40 USD.

Preparations and Welcome

Drinking coffee before taking a cold plunge helps to activate the nervous and adrenal systems.

On the day of my immersion, I felt nervous. After all, you don't immerse yourself in a tub full of ice daily. Alex greeted me warmly and offered me green tea or coffee.

He explained that the caffeine would help awaken my nervous system and adrenal glands, making the experience more bearable.

His house is a peaceful, clean place with a bathroom, making you feel confident and safe.

Breathwork Experience

This image shows a group of people practicing Wim Hof breathing exercises before ice immersion.
The initial Wim Hof breathing exercises were an extraordinary experience and greatly facilitated immersion in the ice.

After I had drank my coffee, we proceeded to the breathwork area. The breathing exercises surprised me, and they were a compelling experience. Alex guided us step by step, and what you could feel with these exercises was terrific.

My hands vibrated, and I felt more alive than ever, ready to face the ice immersion like a warrior.

The Ice Bath Immersion

Breathwork is very important before a cold plunge to achieve the right mindset.

As we gathered for the immersion, I was struck by the diverse group of individuals. That morning, several MMA guys and some triathlon girls, all high-performance athletes, were present.

Some professional fighters, who go religiously for the benefits every Sunday, added to the sense of community.

One by one, we took our turns encouraging each other and creating a supportive atmosphere that was truly heartwarming.

When my turn came, I submerged, and wow, it was much more intense than I imagined. For the first 30 seconds, I felt tempted to run out, but Alex stayed with me and guided my breathing to prevent succumbing to the cold.

The pain in my hands and feet was brutal, as all the blood went to the vital organs, causing this initial constriction. Alex explained what I was feeling and how to cope with it.

Recovery and Sense of Achievement

After 3 minutes, the pain began to subside, and a great sense of well-being flooded me.

My breathing calmed, and I felt utterly relaxed. I couldn't believe that the same ice-cold water that made me suffer so much a few minutes ago now gave me such peace.

It was a testament to my resilience and determination, a personal triumph over the cold and my own fears.

I suffer from chronic hip pain and could feel my hip muscles relaxing and reducing inflammation. In the end, I lasted 5 minutes in the water.

Regaining Warmth and Final Reflection

Recovery exercises after the cold plunge are essential to restore your body temperature.

After the intense immersion, the recovery process was equally important. Alex showed us how to warm up naturally without using towels, letting our bodies restore their temperature.

Alex led us through various exercises until we finally regained our temperature. The sense of accomplishment and well-being was unparalleled. We were all euphoric, excitedly chatting about the experience.

The group immersion had created a beautiful bond with those who shared the experience, partly due to the endorphins generated by the shock.

To finish, Alex offered us all delicious hot pasta and more tea. After eating and chatting animatedly, we all left. That night, I slept better than ever, like a baby.

The ice bath was not just a unique experience, but a transformative one. The chronic hip pain that had accompanied me for years did not bother me in the slightest.

Ice Baths in Playa del Carmen: Conclusion

If you come to Playa del Carmen and want to try something different that is also good for your health, do not hesitate to visit Riviera Frost and book an ice bath. You won't regret it.
